Change Your Focus, Change Your Life. The Power of Taking Control of Your Happiness.

How often have you caught yourself thinking that your happiness is dependent on external factors? That you would be happier if your boss was more understanding or your partner was more affectionate? That you would be happier if you had more money or if you were in a relationship? These thoughts are not uncommon, but they can be incredibly disempowering. The truth is, relying on external factors to create our happiness is a recipe for disappointment.

I grew up thinking that I was a victim of my circumstances, that nothing depended on me, and that I could do nothing to change it. It felt like I was doomed. I was a lonely doomed child in a dysfunctional unstable environment with emotionally unavailable parents. In my mind, and my heart this was going to be my life forever.

Eventually, I realized that there was no point in going through everything alone and I decided to ask for help. Help to feel happy, to not be angry and resentful, help to enjoy my life. And finally, after many years and through various methods of healing ranging from art therapy to plant medicine, I realized that happiness is an inside job.

We have the power to create our happiness, regardless of external circumstances. While it may seem difficult at first, shifting our mindset to focus on what we can control instead of what we cannot is the key to unlocking a life filled with happiness and joy.

When we place the responsibility for our happiness on others or external circumstances, we give away our power. We become passive observers of our lives, waiting for things to change before we allow ourselves to be happy. This way of thinking leaves us feeling helpless and hopeless as if we have no control over our lives.

However, when we shift our focus to what we can control - our thoughts, beliefs, and actions - we become active participants in our lives. We can create the life we want by making choices that align with our values and beliefs, regardless of external circumstances. We can choose to focus on the positive aspects of our lives and find joy in even the smallest of things.

It's important to note that this mindset shift doesn't happen overnight. It takes practice and persistence to break free from the limiting beliefs that have held us back for so long. It requires us to take an honest look at ourselves and the way we think about the world around us. It may be uncomfortable at first, but the rewards are immeasurable.

So, how can we begin to shift our mindset from one of powerlessness to one of empowerment?

Here are a few tips to get started:

1. Take responsibility for your happiness. Recognize that you have the power to create your happiness, regardless of external circumstances.

2. Practice gratitude. Take time each day to reflect on the things in your life that you are grateful for. This can be as simple as appreciating the sunshine or a kind gesture from a friend.

3. Focus on what you can control. Instead of dwelling on the things you cannot change, focus on what you can control - your thoughts, beliefs, and actions.

4. Surround yourself with positivity. Spend time with people who uplift and inspire you. Fill your social media feeds with positive and uplifting content.

5. Practice self-care. Take care of your physical, emotional, and mental well-being. This can include getting enough sleep, eating well, exercising, and engaging in activities that bring you joy.

By adopting these practices, you can begin to shift your mindset from one of powerlessness to one of empowerment. You can create a life filled with happiness and joy, regardless of external circumstances. Remember, happiness is an inside job - you have the power to create it for yourself.

I am a living, walking testament to the fact that shifting our focus inward will generate a massive transformation. My life changed dramatically for the better and it continues to do so. I stopped waiting for external circumstances to change and started taking responsibility for my happiness. I began to take notice of everything I did have going on, all the things I was grateful for, like having both my parents, having amazing siblings, being healthy, having a roof over my head, food, education, and opportunities. I was taking so much for granted.

I later understood that by focusing on all the negativity, I was perpetuating it. By understanding how my mind worked, by shifting my focus to the positive and vibrating in gratitude instead of lack, I took control of my life. So, I encourage you to take the first step towards creating a life that you want, filled with happiness and joy by shifting your perspective and focusing on yourself. Because even if nothing changes, if you change, everything changes!

Positive vibes to everyone…Until next time!
